The Nonprofit Success Pack, commonly called NPSP, is a managed package built on top of Salesforce CRM and maintained by Salesforce.org, the social impact arm of Salesforce. It extends the standard Salesforce data model with features and objects designed specifically for nonprofit operations: donor and constituent management, gift and pledge tracking, recurring donation processing, household account modeling, and grant management. NPSP has been the foundation of nonprofit Salesforce implementations for over a decade and is used by tens of thousands of organizations globally.
NPSP is provided free to qualifying nonprofits through the Power of Us program, which gives eligible organizations ten free Salesforce licenses. This has made Salesforce accessible to organizations that would otherwise not have the budget for enterprise CRM software, and has built a large ecosystem of nonprofit Salesforce consultants, community groups, and implementation resources.
Salesforce is actively transitioning the nonprofit ecosystem toward its Nonprofit Cloud product, a newer, more deeply integrated solution built natively on the Salesforce platform rather than as a managed package. NPSP will continue to be supported for existing implementations, but new nonprofit customers are increasingly being directed toward Nonprofit Cloud. Organizations currently on NPSP should be evaluating the migration path and timeline in their technology planning.
For technology consultants and Salesforce architects working in the nonprofit sector, fluency in NPSP's data model, its specific conventions around contacts, accounts, and households, and its integration patterns is a prerequisite for effective implementation work. Many nonprofits have deeply customized their NPSP implementations over years, and those customizations must be carefully assessed before any platform migration or AI feature adoption.
